This is a new thing! It’s a tiny recap of what I was up to this month and I’ll be doing it every month for EVER. Exciting, yeah?!
Number of shows I shot this month: five!
Favorite show: Forever Young at The Huddle
Favorite artist I shot: Forever Young (again!)
Fun tidbits: I shot at three new venues!
01.09.19 // Alex Delgado, Jaik Yanez, Josh Guzman, and Riley Edwards at Brick in San Antonio, Texas
This was such a sweet little intimate show with a good cause! The night was in honor of suicide prevention and there was a handful of cool vendors. I got to do a full merch table and a little photo booth! A big goal for me this month was to work with new clients at new venues outside of my typical comfort zone and I did! I even got called on stage to talk about about myself and my business to that was definitely out of my comfort zone!
01.17.19 // Forever Young at Fitzgerald’s in San Antonio, Texas
The love of my life is Forever Young’s lead singer and lead guitarist so shooting FY is always tons of fun! I was super stoked for this show for so many reasons; I knew that the band would be covering The Smashing Pumpkins’ Bullet with Butterfly Wings for the first time (to which, they do a phenomenal performance of), I was finally going to shoot at Fitz, and FY just got new shirts and stickers in! I got to draw on the bathroom walls in chalk then take a nap on the comfy couches which was fun!
01.20.19 // House Plants, Hamartia, Lonestar Massacre, and The Milk Theory at the Paper Tiger in San Antonio, Texas
This was the COLDEST show of my life. I definitely wish I had checked the weather beforehand. But this show wasn’t all bad- I shot some of my favorite clients and did a fun mini promo shoot with The Milk Theory that will be published in the Winter 2019 issue of Veracious Magazine!
01.25.19 // Forever Young and Just fine. at The Huddle in Uvalde, Texas
This was my favorite show of the month!! Mac and I stayed in a hotel for this show so we actually arrived at the venue together- that’s a first! I got to run Forever Young’s merch (I love running merch, lemme do that for your band too, y’all) and the door! Running the door was a bit hectic at first but once I got the hang of it, it was so much fun because I got to meet like 100 new people! The only downside to this show is that it was super duper cold and I hate the cold but I learned from the last show so I went well prepared with lots of layers, hand warmers, and fuzzy socks!
01.30.19 // Perfect Season at the Ventura in San Antonio, Texas
Ah I love Perfect Season (previously Trademarks)!! They’ve always been supportive of my creative visions and they’re all genuine, fun people to shoot! The band printed some shirts with one of my photos of them!! This is my first time (that I know of) that my photo has ever been printed on merch so I was super duper excited to get one!
01.31.19 // Crystal Lake, Miss May I, and Fit For A King at Alamo City Music Hall in San Antonio, Texas
This was the worst show ever! Okay- that’s dramatic, just the worst show of the month! All the bands were great, security was actually super kind (and saved me from getting tackled by a crowd surfer because I wasn’t paying attention oops), I got to go to the show with fun people, BUT I had a panic attack. Having a panic attack at work es no bueno! But thankfully, my lovely Mac got me out of the show before I freaked out too much. ABR’s team is probably a bit annoyed with me but I was truly SO SAD to miss shooting them.
Scroll through below to see some Official Venue Bathroom Mirror Selfies™ (get it? the little “TM” is like trademark but also like TJ Martinez! wowo), my photo on merch, and my cute little photo booth thing with my Mac! Some photos look a little funny in the grids but if you click on them, they expand BIG!
That’s all! See ya next month!!
xoxo,
TJ
